Instagram Bio Ideas for Business: 34 Examples for India
Instagram bio ideas for Indian businesses: a fill-in-the-blanks formula, 34 examples by industry, Hindi and Hinglish bios, and the limits to check first.
Published by Web Hippo in Social Media
Most searches for Instagram bio ideas are for personal profiles: captions for boys, girls, attitude bios. If you run a clinic, a café, a salon or a D2C brand, those don't help. Your bio has a different job. It has to tell a stranger, within a few seconds of landing on your profile, whether you can solve their problem and what to do next.
This guide covers what a business Instagram bio needs to do, the profile fields you can use (with the limits checked against Instagram's Help Centre), a fill-in-the-blanks formula, 34 ready-to-adapt examples for Indian businesses including Hindi and Hinglish bios, and the mistakes we see most often when auditing profiles. Every business named below is fictional, so copy the structure, not the words.
What a Business Instagram Bio Has to Do
People usually land on your profile from a Reel, a tag, a search or an ad. They glance at the name, the first line of the bio and the grid, and decide whether to follow, tap a button or leave. Think of the bio as a shop signboard, not an "about us" page.
In practice, a visitor should be able to answer four questions from your bio alone:
- <strong>Who is this for?</strong> Parents in Whitefield, brides in Jaipur, B2B founders, anyone who wants filter coffee in Jubilee Hills.
- <strong>What do they offer?</strong> The actual service or product, in the words a customer would search for.
- <strong>Why trust them?</strong> A fact, not an adjective: years open, a qualification, where the product is made, a registration number.
- <strong>What do I do now?</strong> Book, call, order, visit or DM. One action, not four.
If your current bio answers only one of these (usually the second, and vaguely), it is doing a fraction of its job.
The Profile Fields You Can Use, and Their Limits
The bio text is only one part of your profile. A professional account (business or creator) gets extra fields, and each has a different purpose. If you haven't switched yet, our guide to business vs creator accounts on Instagram explains which one suits you.
Instagram's Help Centre confirms that you can write a bio of up to 150 characters and add up to 5 websites to your profile. Emojis, spaces and line breaks all use up characters, so use the counter in the app while you edit rather than drafting in a notes app and hoping it fits.
Why the name field matters more than the bio for search
When someone searches inside Instagram, the app tries to match their words with usernames, bios, captions, hashtags and places. Instagram's own explainer on how Instagram search works says a handle or profile name related to your content is your "best bet" for showing up in relevant searches, and suggests adding your location to the bio if your business is local.
So a name field that reads "Neem Tree | Dentist Kukatpally" does more work than "Neem Tree Dental 🦷✨". The brand is still first, but a person searching "dentist kukatpally" now has a reason to see you. Keep it readable. A name stuffed with five keywords looks like spam and is harder to remember. Instagram's Help Centre doesn't state a length limit for the name field, and third-party guides quote different figures, so we keep every example below to 30 characters or fewer to be safe.
Category label, contact options and action buttons
Business accounts can edit the business category and contact information, and choose whether to display or hide them on the profile. The category label ("Dentist", "Café", "Clothing brand") sits under your name, so you don't need to repeat it in the bio text. That frees characters for proof and a call to action.
Contact buttons (call, email, directions) and action buttons such as "Book" or "Order food", which work through Meta partner apps, sit below the bio. If you enable them, your bio can simply say "Tap Call to book" instead of spelling out a phone number. Only switch on channels someone will answer. A "Call" button that rings an unattended landline costs you more than having no button.
The Instagram Bio Formula: Fill in the Blanks
Almost every good business bio we see follows the same four-part order: <strong>who you help + what you offer + proof + call to action</strong>. Use the table below as a template. Fill the middle column for your business, then trim to fit 150 characters.
34 Instagram Bio Ideas and Examples by Business Type
Each example shows the name field in bold, then the bio with its line breaks. All the businesses are invented for illustration, and square brackets mean "insert your real detail". Swap in your own area, services and proof, and never claim anything you can't back up.
Clinics and healthcare
Patients want to know what you treat, where you are and when you're open. Avoid "best doctor" and guaranteed-result language: it isn't credible, and healthcare advertising in India is closely watched. For the wider picture, see our guide to digital marketing for healthcare in India.

Cafés, restaurants and cloud kitchens
Food bios should make someone hungry and tell them how to get the food: dine in, delivery apps, or a direct order link. Hours and a signature dish do more than "best food in town".

Coaches, consultants and educators
Service-led bios work best when they name a narrow audience. "Helping people grow" says nothing; "strength coaching for busy parents over 40" tells the right person they're in the right place.

Real estate
Buyers look for locality, property type and whether you are legitimate. If you are a registered agent or the project is RERA-registered, putting the registration number in the bio is a simple trust signal.

Chartered accountants and lawyers
Professional bodies restrict how CAs and advocates can promote themselves. The Bar Council of India prohibits advocates from soliciting work or advertising under Rule 36 of its rules, and a 2024 PIB release confirmed that the prohibition extends to online platforms. ICAI's code of ethics similarly limits solicitation by practising CAs. So these bios stay strictly factual: no offers, no "best", no client wins, no calls to action that read like selling.

Hindi and Hinglish bio examples
If your customers speak Hindi (or Hinglish on WhatsApp), write the bio the way they talk. A Hindi bio for a neighbourhood business often feels more approachable than a stiff English one. Keep the name field in the language people will type into search, which for many Indian users is still English or Roman-script Hindi.

Before and After: Three Bio Rewrites
These show the formula applied to the kinds of bios we see most often in profile audits. The "before" versions are typical patterns, not real accounts.
Emojis, Line Breaks and Formatting
- <strong>Line breaks make a bio scannable.</strong> One idea per line, three to five lines. A single 150-character sentence is hard to read on a phone.
- <strong>Use emojis as signposts, not decoration.</strong> 📍 for location, 📞 for call, 👇 pointing at the link. Two or three is plenty for most businesses; a row of sparkles tells the reader nothing.
- <strong>Separators help.</strong> A middle dot (·) or a pipe (|) lets you fit two short facts on one line.
- <strong>Avoid fancy Unicode fonts.</strong> Those "𝓼𝓽𝔂𝓵𝓲𝓼𝓱" letter generators may not match normal text in search, and screen readers can struggle with them.
- <strong>Hashtags and @mentions in the bio are clickable.</strong> Use them only when they help, for example tagging a sister account for your second location.
Common Instagram Bio Mistakes
- <strong>Leading with a quote or motto.</strong> "Dream big" wastes your most visible line. Put what you do first.
- <strong>No location for a local business.</strong> A Kondapur restaurant that doesn't say Kondapur is invisible to people nearby.
- <strong>Several calls to action at once.</strong> "DM, call, WhatsApp, visit website, shop now" means nobody knows which to pick.
- <strong>A link that doesn't match the CTA.</strong> If the bio says "Book a check-up", the first link must open a booking page, not your homepage.
- <strong>Stale offers.</strong> "Diwali sale live!" in February tells visitors nobody manages the account.
- <strong>Superlatives and guarantees.</strong> "Best", "No. 1", "100% results" are unconvincing, and for doctors, lawyers and CAs they can create regulatory trouble.
- <strong>Repeating what the profile already shows.</strong> The category label and contact buttons already carry that information, so use the characters for proof instead.
Make the Rest of the Profile Match
A strong bio sends people to your highlights, grid and link, so those need to back it up. Pin posts that show your best work, and use highlights for the questions people always ask: menu, prices, location, reviews. Our guide to Instagram highlight covers covers the design side. Review the bio every few months, and whenever your offer, hours or location change.
If you would rather have someone audit and rewrite the whole profile, our social media management team sets up and runs Instagram accounts for businesses across India.
